Essential Eight, ASD Essentials & cybersecurity compliance

Security
you can prove.

Small and mid-sized businesses are now prime targets. You hold valuable data, often run thinner defences, and can be the way into a bigger client's supply chain. We assess your environment against recognised frameworks, close the gaps that matter most, and give you evidence that stands up to clients, insurers and auditors.

Cybersecurity & Compliance

The problem
& our fix.

Most environments we assess have Microsoft 365 Business Premium licences, and most still have serious gaps. A licence doesn't configure itself.

We benchmark you against the Essential Eight, the new ASD Essentials or your chosen framework, then our engineers implement the fixes themselves. You get a prioritised plan, the work done, and the documentation to prove it.

We work on-site with businesses in Melbourne, and remotely with clients across Australia and overseas.

Frameworks

The standards we work to.

ASD

Essential Eight

Eight mitigation strategies rated across four maturity levels. We run gap assessments against your target, implement controls in Microsoft 365, Intune and Defender, collect evidence and review maturity over time. Its successor, ASD Essentials (published October 2026), runs alongside it for now, and we assess against both.

CyberCert

SMB1001

A tiered certification built for small businesses. We handle readiness, remediation, evidence and certification guidance for you.

ISO/IEC

ISO 27001 readiness

Gap analysis, Annex A controls, policies, risk registers and asset management, so you walk into your external audit prepared.

Essential Eight maturity levels

Which level do you need?

The ASD rates each of the eight strategies from Maturity Level Zero to Three. Most small businesses we work with target Level One or Two first, then build up.

ML0

Not aligned

Weaknesses in the overall posture. Common in environments that have grown without a security baseline.

ML1

Opportunistic attackers

Protects against attackers using widely available tools and basic phishing. The usual starting target for SMBs.

ML2

Targeted attackers

Protects against attackers willing to invest more time and effort. Often expected by larger clients and insurers.

ML3

Adaptive attackers

Protects against skilled, persistent attackers. Suited to businesses holding highly sensitive data.

FAQs

Common questions.

More answers on our FAQ page.

Is the Essential Eight being replaced?
Yes, gradually. ASD published ASD Essentials on 15 October 2026, and both frameworks now run side by side. Existing Essential Eight obligations still apply, and ASD expects to retire the Essential Eight within about two years. Maturity levels don't carry over to the new effectiveness ratings, so we map your current controls to the new domains and plan the transition with you.
Do we need full Essential Eight compliance?
Not necessarily. Many SMBs start at Maturity Level One or Two. We help you pick a target that matches your risk and your clients' expectations.
How are CyberCert and the Essential Eight different?
The Essential Eight is a technical framework from the Australian Signals Directorate. CyberCert SMB1001 is a certification for small businesses that builds on it and gives you a formal certificate to show clients.
Isn't having Microsoft 365 enough?
No. Licensing doesn't mean the features are switched on or configured well. Most environments we assess have gaps despite Business Premium licences.
Do you issue ISO 27001 certification?
No. Only an accredited third-party body can certify you. We prepare your environment and documentation, and help you engage an auditor.
Can you work with our existing IT team?
Yes. We work co-managed alongside internal IT or another MSP, or on individual projects.
