Managed IT & Essential Eight FAQs
Questions,
answered.
Straight answers about how we work, what compliance really takes, and what it costs to get secure.
Working with us
Who do you work with?
Mostly Australian small and mid-sized businesses, from growing startups to established firms that need to scale, automate or secure their technology. Professional services firms such as accountants, auditors and lawyers are a particular focus.
Is this affordable for a small business?
Yes. We scope to your size and focus on the changes with the biggest risk reduction for the money, often using Microsoft features you already pay for.
Can you work alongside our existing IT provider?
Yes. We can work co-managed with internal IT or another MSP, or take on individual projects.
Do you offer support after a project finishes?
Yes. We offer ongoing maintenance, cloud monitoring and security updates, or a fully managed agreement.
Security & compliance
Is the Essential Eight being replaced?
Yes, gradually. ASD published ASD Essentials on 15 October 2026, and both frameworks now run side by side. Existing Essential Eight obligations still apply, and ASD expects to retire the Essential Eight within about two years. Maturity levels don't carry over to the new effectiveness ratings, so we map your current controls to the new domains and plan the transition with you.
Do we need full Essential Eight compliance?
Not necessarily. Many SMBs start with Maturity Level One or Two and build up from there.
How are CyberCert and the Essential Eight different?
The Essential Eight is a technical framework from the Australian Signals Directorate. CyberCert SMB1001 is a small-business certification that builds on it and gives you a formal certificate to show clients.
Isn't Microsoft 365 secure out of the box?
No. Licensing doesn't guarantee secure configuration, and most environments we assess have gaps despite Business Premium licences.
Do you provide ISO 27001 certification?
No. An accredited third-party body certifies you. We prepare your environment and documentation and help you engage an auditor.
How do you handle disaster recovery?
We design redundant cloud setups and immutable, tested backups, so you can keep operating through hardware failure, outages or ransomware.
Will security scale as we grow?
Yes. Controls are built on Microsoft's cloud platform, so new staff, devices and sites inherit the same protections.
Software & AI
How long do software projects take?
It depends on scope. Simple web rebuilds take about two to three weeks. Complex software and AI automation are delivered in structured agile phases.
What technology do you build with?
Modern, well-supported tools: .NET, React, Next.js, Node.js, Python and Flutter, on Azure or AWS, plus low-code platforms where they make sense.
Can you integrate AI into our existing tools?
Yes. We build data pipelines, intelligent workflows and AI integrations that work with the systems you already use.
Do you build mobile apps?
Yes. Native and cross-platform iOS and Android apps, including offline capability.
How do you keep our data safe during development?
Security by design: code, data pipelines and infrastructure are hardened from the start, and we follow strict privacy practices.
